How to Split Trip Expenses

Group trips are fun until it's time to settle up. This guide covers how to track and split travel expenses fairly so everyone pays their share.

Create a trip group before you leave

Before the trip, create a group in Tacth and invite everyone. This way, anyone can log expenses as they happen instead of trying to remember later.

Use the trip template for travel-specific features like multi-currency support.

Log expenses as you go

The biggest mistake is waiting until after the trip to log expenses. By then, nobody remembers who paid for what.

Log each expense in Tacth as it happens — flights, hotels, meals, fuel, activities, and local transport.

Record who paid and how to split it. Most trip expenses are split equally, but some may need exact amounts.

Handle multiple currencies

For international trips, you'll pay in different currencies. Tacth supports multi-currency expenses.

Set the group currency to your home currency (e.g., INR) and log expenses in the local currency (e.g., USD, THB).

Enter the exchange rate when logging each expense and Tacth converts it for balance calculations.

Review simplified balances

At any point during the trip, check simplified balances to see who owes whom.

Tacth minimizes the number of transfers needed, so settling up is simple.

Settle after the trip

Once the trip is over, review the final balances and settle via UPI or cash.

Tacth shows the minimum number of transfers needed to settle all debts.
